Home to the Colorado Legislature, the Colorado State Capitol was constructed in 1890 from locally mined white granite. The sheen visitors see on the dome is actual gold added in the early 20th century to commemorate the gold rush. The capitol is located in the downtown area, across the street from the Civic Center Park.
Open Sep - Aug for tours. Times vary and reservations may be required, check website for details.

Never taken the tour, but love the architecture. Too bad I felt a little unsafe wandering around the neighborhood, I would've liked to have spent more time there.
